The design world according to Covid-19

Updated: Dec 5, 2021

As close as we may be to leaving lockdown, we've all become aware of accepting the new normal. The pandemic has created a different way of working within the design industry. From a personal standpoint, I have seen my fellow students once a week for teaching. This means that similar to many jobs, we work at least 90% online.

With this change has come opportunities to work together digitally. My Graphic Communication course has done this through Mural. The program allows us to collate our work together on a blank screen and give feedback in the form of post-it notes. Sharing ideas is one of the fundamentals students use to strengthen their work and develop the outcome. Mural is the most useful tool for doing this and can keep the pages up so you can go back and look at how people have changed their work over time.

I believe as learners, we must focus on the possibilities ahead, not the setbacks we have faced during this home-based experience. This is because we have adapted to the pandemic at university level and in the design industry. However, I am excited for what lies ahead and will forever remain positive that design will make a change!
