COCKNEY'S NOT BROWN BREAD

Cultural Identity

Cockney as a dialect is most notable for its coded language, which was born out of rhyming slang. There are as many as 150 original terms that are recognized by any rhyming slang user.

‘Cockney’s not Brown Bread’ is a pop-up exhibition set in the Wellcome Collection. It aims to bring Cockney rhyming slang back into the modern day. Visitors can learn about the dialect of East End London. The exhibition will be advertised through bold colourful posters and billboards. Set in the heart of London anyone can learn about the most popular Cockney rhyming slang phrases.

THE CHALLENGE

To create a well-crafted pop-up exhibition based around the theme of 'dialect' for the Wellcome Collection in London.
